“Anybody who has survived his childhood has enough information about life to last him the rest of his days.”
— Flannery O'Connor

ABOUT ME.

I grew up in a small town in Connecticut where I felt more feral than female, building forts and climbing trees and making every overhanging rock into a cave.  I’d look for spiders under rocks, and coax my dad to help me shift the heavy flat ones. (I was convinced that a Native American was buried below.)  I spent hours scrambling over stonewalls, reaching deep down to find rocks of different colors.  Their shapes (ladles? arrows?) and colors (dyes? blood?) proved that the woods were filled with mystery.  The inside of our home wasn’t any safer from my investigations.  I pawed through dresser drawers, and old boxes filled with photos and buttons, greasy nuts and bolts in the basement…

What was I searching for?  Clues to who I was.  Answers to unspoken family secrets.  Stories.
